The Art of Magic in South Haven

We received an invitation from James Hagy (of the Perennial Mystics) about an exhibition open this summer at the South Haven Centre for the Arts in Michigan.

From James:

The Art of Magic will highlight the world of performance magic and magicians in America and beyond through over 120 artifacts dating from the 16th to 20th centuries, including early lithography, posters, prints, and ephemera on loan to the Centre, many of which have never before been exhibited in public.

… I hope that you will be able to visit the Centre for “The Art of Magic“.

The Exhibit will be open from July 15 to September 16, 2017. Admission is free but a $5 donation is suggested in order to support the work of the Centre, which is a not-for-profit organization.

James will be hosting gallery talks for visitors on Saturday July 15 (opening day) and again on Tuesday, August 1, Sunday August 6 and Saturday, September 16.

Magic at the Museum in Montreal

Looking for a place to visit over the summer? Last month, the McCord Museum in Montreal opened a new exhibit: Illusions – The Art of Magic.

The exhibit features over seventy images on display from one of the world’s largest magic poster collection. The collection was donated to the museum by La Fondation Emmanuelle Gattuso. Here’s a little peek inside:

Along with the exhibit, they also produced a gorgeous oversize hardcover full-colour catalog reproducing 230 posters from the collection which is available for sale from the Museum Boutique.

The awards were instituted by the Slaight Family Foundation to honour Allan Slaight, a media mogul and philanthropist with a lifelong passion for magic, and to celebrate outstanding achievements in the pursuit of the impossible.
