We realize that many may not be familiar with Spanish magician Magic Alan (Alfredo Marchese) who will be lecturing on Thursday, September 28. So we thought we would get someone to make a short video explaining what the lecture was all about.
Because we all need more Spanish magic in our lives!
Our lecture for November will be the celebrated Canadian magician, Richard Sanders. We try every year to showcase at least one prominent Canadian magician and we are thrilled to be hosting Richard at the club.
More information will follow, but you can save the date: Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:00 PM.
From the book publishing wizards at Magicana, the long awaited books on the magic of Johnny Thompson are now available for pre-order:
For decades, Johnny Thompson has been one of the most respected minds in magic. His decades-long distinguished career has covered all facets of magic. From trade-show performances, to performing on stage in the early days of Las Vegas to consulting on stage for Lance Burton, Criss Angel and Penn & Teller, including behind-the-scenes judging on all four seasons of Fool Us, Johnny has done it all. He was the first recipient of the Allan Slaight Award for Lifetime Achievement (2015) and has been awarded the Masters Fellowship from The Academy of Magical Arts (1999).
Written with renowned author Jamy Ian Swiss—Shattering Illusions (2001), Devious Standards (2011), and Preserving Mystery (2017) and the Lyons Den—and illustrated with hundreds of photographs by Julie Eng, The Magic of Johnny Thompson explains the real secrets of Johnny’s most cherished and celebrated routines including The Cups & Balls, The Balls in the Net, The Egg Bag and The Gambler’s Ballad.
It also includes previously unpublished material from Johnny’s respected colleagues and mentors including Dai Vernon, Harry Riser and Ed Marlo; an extended chapter devoted to the close-up magic of Charlie Miller and Max Malini, Johnny Thompson’s Trade Show Act including the Hundred Dollar Prediction; and an extended chapter on the dove and silk magic of The Great Tomsoni and Company.
Everything you would expect—and much more—from one of the most respected magicians of this or any other age!
The special pre-publication price is available until October 31, 2017. The books are expected in early 2017.
To accommodate travel schedules, our October Lecture will be in the Last Week of September! (Because we ALL need more Spanish magic in our lives.)
Alfredo Marchese from Spain
When: Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7:00 PM
Where: Fairview Public Library (35 Fairview Mall Drive – map)
Admission: FREE for Members ($20 for guests – tickets at the door)
Travelling all the way from Spain, Alfredo Marchese, or as he is often known on stage, Magic Alan, will present “A Different Lecture” based on 35 years experience as a professional performer. Those familiar with the famous “Spanish School of Magic” know that they have a well-earned reputation for taking card tricks and turning them into deeply deceptive, emotionally powerful card miracles. Even better is the way in which they generously offer to explain all the thinking and obsessing over details that went into it.
If there’s one thing we all need, it’ more Spanish magic in our lives!
Alfredo Marchese’s magic is intelligent, original and entertaining. But not every excellent performer is a good lecturer, too. Alfredo, however, has that rare talent of being able to marry his skills as an international professional performer with the analytical yet always practical thinking that is the hallmark of the Spanish School of Thought.
His lecture is broad and deep at the same time, teaching superlative effects, and at the same time talking about the essence of magic, which can be applied to any type of magic.
