September: Ryan Murray Lecture

When: Thursday September 21st – Doors open at 7PM

Tickets: Free for members and $20 guests

Where: Agricola Lutheran Church - 25 Old York Mills Road

Ryan Murray is one the great secrets of the Toronto magic scene who is quickly becoming an underground sensation. After our Joshua Jay lecture in November, Ryan put on a card sleight display that blew Joshua’s mind. He has continued to amaze other magi first hand with his recent trips to Magifest in Columbus and Magic Live in Las Vegas.

He has currently published two books on card magic; Curious Weaving (2018) which expands on the faro shuffle and takes weave shuffles to a whole new level of possibilities, and Natural Card Magic (2021) in which he explores an obscure underground principle that he often uses to fool magicians very very badly. These books have established Ryan as being highly detail oriented when it comes to learning difficult sleight-of-hand. In 2016 he was awarded the Len Cooper Memorial award from the Browser’s Den of Magic for his excellence and dedication towards magic.

In this lecture, Ryan will cover his thoughts on card handling, including some of his original techniques, his tips and improvements on false shuffles and cuts, and his tips on the faro shuffle. In addition to the faro shuffle, Ryan will also cover the bizarre variations of weave shuffles that he has been using to baffle other magicians over the last few years. Ryan will also cover a few of his routines.
